DSTV Signal Repairs in Franschhoek

The most common DSTV faults we repair

E48-32 / no signal: usually a dish alignment issue, faulty LNB, water-damaged F-connector or broken cable. We test the dish first, then the cable, then the LNB, then the decoder — in that order — to find the root cause. (Realignment is its own dish alignment job; we'll quote separately if that's what's needed.)

Picture freezing in bad weather: the dish signal is borderline. Could be alignment, an aging LNB, or signal degradation through old cable. We test signal strength on a meter and decide whether to realign, swap the LNB or replace the cable run.

Missing channels: usually a smartcard subscription issue, a decoder that needs a software update, or a partial dish misalignment that's lost one transponder while keeping others. We confirm with MultiChoice and fix the dish side if needed.

Decoder won't boot or freezes constantly: sometimes a software issue (we factory-reset and reload), sometimes hardware (we recommend a replacement and quote on it — see DSTV decoder setup).

How we diagnose a fault

We work systematically from the dish backwards. First, we visually inspect the dish for misalignment, corrosion or storm damage. Then we connect our signal meter directly to the LNB output to confirm raw signal strength and quality — this isolates whether the fault is dish-side or cable-and-decoder-side. If the dish is clean, we move to the cable: check the F-connectors at both ends for water ingress, test continuity, and replace any damaged sections. Only then do we look at the decoder itself.

This order matters. Most 'decoder problems' turn out to be dish or cable problems, and replacing a perfectly good decoder wastes your money. Most 'dish problems' are actually cable problems where water has come down through a bad seal.
