Drive through the Winelands and you’ll spot the difference immediately: some estates have a tidy roofline, others have a cluster of mismatched satellite dishes bolted across every unit. The tidy ones have a communal DSTV system. For sectional-title complexes, residential estates, guest farms and lodges, communal DSTV is almost always the smarter answer: here’s why, and how it works.
Instead of every unit having its own dish, a communal (or SMATV: Satellite Master Antenna TV) system uses a single, professionally sited head-end dish array that captures the satellite signal once and distributes it cleanly to every unit through a shared cable network. Each home or room still runs its own decoder and subscription: residents keep full control of their own package, but the dish infrastructure is shared. It’s the standard approach for multi-unit properties, and the core of our communal DSTV installation service.
For hospitality properties the case is even stronger. A guest farm with several cottages doesn’t want each unit sprouting a dish, and doesn’t want a signal failure ruining a paying guest’s stay. A communal system gives a consistent, reliable feed to every cottage and public area, and pairs naturally with the wider commercial DSTV setup a hospitality property needs.
We start with a site survey: how many units and points, where the head-end dish gets the best clear line-of-sight, and how the cable network should run. Then we install the head-end, run the distribution network with proper RG6 and weatherproofed connections, and commission each point so every unit gets full signal. Tidy cabling and mounting inside units finishes it off. It’s a bigger job than a home install, but done once it serves the whole property for years.

You can physically move many DStv decoders, but whether the decoder will work correctly at another house depends on the satellite installation waiting there. The subscription travels with the decoder and account; the dish, LNB, cabling and decoder configuration at the destination still need to be compatible. What the other house must already have The […]
