The 2026 story is not a simple across-the-board increase
South Africans searching for the “DStv price increase 2026” will find a more complicated picture than the usual April adjustment. DStv’s advertised August 2026 package prices are lower on several tiers than the previous standard monthly figures, while some of the headline savings require a 12-month commitment or apply to streaming rather than a decoder subscription.
The current advertised range runs from R29 for EasyView to R799 for flexible Premium. Premium is also promoted at R699 on a 12-month offer. Compact has the same two-price problem: R299 with the promoted commitment and R399 month to month.

Old price to new advertised price, package by package

The saving is meaningful, but flexibility has value. Someone who watches year-round may prefer R699. A seasonal sports viewer who wants to downgrade or pause should read the commitment terms before choosing it.
Compact Plus: R659 → R549
Compact Plus moves from a previous standard figure around R659 to a current advertised R549. It remains aimed at viewers who want more serious sport and international entertainment than Compact without paying for the full Premium bouquet.
Check the live channel list before switching down from Premium. Saving R110 a month is useful only if the sports and channels your household follows remain available.
Compact: R479 → R399 flexible, or R299 on the 12-month offer
Compact’s older standard monthly price was around R479. The present flexible price is advertised at R399, an R80 reduction. The promoted 12-month price is R299, which is R180 below the old standard.
This is likely to be the most eye-catching change because Compact is a popular football-and-family tier. Do not compare R299 with another provider’s flexible product without noting the annual term. The fair month-to-month comparison is R399.
Family: R339 → from R299 for streaming
Family previously appeared around R339 on standard price lists. Current comparison material promotes streaming from R299, while decoder-based pricing can differ depending on the offer shown to a new or existing customer.
This is the tier where a neat old-to-new comparison is least reliable. Confirm whether the quote is streaming-only or tied to satellite hardware. Data usage should also be included in a streaming household’s budget.
Access: R150 → R99
Access has shifted from the previous R150 region to an advertised R99 a month. The R51 drop makes it a much stronger budget option for local entertainment, news, kids, music and selected sport.
It still is not a substitute for Compact if major Premier League coverage or broader premium sport is the reason you subscribe. Compare channels before downgrading to capture the saving.
EasyView: R30 → R29
EasyView changes only slightly, from about R30 to R29. The one-rand difference is not the real decision. EasyView remains a small basic bouquet for households that want the lowest possible recurring DStv charge.
It can keep a decoder useful at very low cost, but it will disappoint anyone expecting the entertainment or sport found higher up the range.
Why the amount on your account may be different
Your promotion ended
An introductory or retention deal can expire even when the public package price has fallen. The debit order then appears to “increase”. Compare the old promotion with the new standard price, not two unrelated headlines.
You have an access fee or extra environment
Explora functionality, XtraView and other account features add to the base bouquet. A package advert usually leads with the subscription, not every charge on a configured household account.
You are comparing streaming with satellite
