Compact is the package most Franschhoek households actually end up with, and there’s a reason for that: it’s the point where the price still feels sensible but you stop missing the football, the local drama and the movie channels everyone talks about at the school gate. As of August 2026 it’s priced at R299 a month on the current 12-month offer, or R399 a month if you’d rather stay flexible and pay month to month. The line-up sits at 110-plus channels, though that number shifts slightly every few months as MultiChoice adds, renames or retires channels: more on that below, because there’s a change happening this month that’s worth knowing about before you complain to your installer that “a channel disappeared.”
If you’re comparing Compact against Compact Plus or Family before you commit, our DStv packages and price list page breaks down all six bouquets side by side. This post just goes deep on the one most people choose.
Rather than dump 110 channel names on you in one long paragraph, here’s the line-up grouped the way you’d actually use it: by what you’d switch it on for.

Here’s the bit most channel-list articles won’t tell you because they haven’t been updated: MultiChoice is renaming its four SuperSport Variety channels from 19 August 2026. SuperSport Variety 1 becomes SuperSport Football Plus (premium football including selected UEFA Champions League fixtures), Variety 2 becomes SuperSport KickOff (overflow coverage when matches clash), Variety 3 becomes SuperSport Africa (South African and continental sport) and Variety 4 becomes SuperSport Action. Compact keeps all four of these channels: you’re just going to see new names and numbers appear on your guide over the next few weeks. Nothing to fix, nothing to phone your installer about; it’s a rebrand, not a removal.
What is actually disappearing is a separate matter. Four channels: M-Net Movies 1, Mzansi Bioskop, Mzansi Music and kykNET Lekker, close down for good at 23:59 on 16 September 2026 as MultiChoice trims overlapping channels. If you’re on Compact and one of your favourite Afrikaans or local-film channels goes dark that week, this is why, and MultiChoice says the content itself is moving to other channels rather than vanishing outright.
Compact Plus adds SuperSport 7 and SuperSport 10 on top of everything Compact already has, along with a few extra entertainment channels, for R549 a month, worth it mainly if UEFA Champions League nights matter more to your household than the extra R250. Family, by contrast, drops most of the SuperSport line-up but keeps the local drama, kids and lifestyle channels, and streams from R299 a month. If sport is the whole reason you’re subscribing, Compact is usually the sweet spot: enough SuperSport to follow the PSL and Premier League without paying Compact Plus money for tournaments you might watch twice a year.
Think about the households we install for most: a family with two or three kids who fight over Cartoon Network in the afternoon and the PSL on a Saturday, a couple who want Mzansi Magic drama during the week and a bit of European football over weekends, or a guesthouse owner who needs a package guests recognise without paying Premium-level fees on a room they might rent out four nights a week. Compact covers all three cases comfortably. Where it starts to strain is if someone in the house is a serious Champions League or UFC follower: that’s really a Compact Plus conversation, and we’d rather tell you that upfront than have you discover it mid-season.
A channel list is only useful if the dish, decoder and cabling behind it are actually pulling a clean signal, and out here in the valley, between the mountains and the odd load-shedding-triggered realignment, that’s not always automatic. Our team handles new DStv installations in Franschhoek from the dish alignment through to getting Compact activated and tuned properly on day one, so you’re not troubleshooting a “no signal” message an hour before the football starts.
Whether you’re setting up in town, out on a wine estate, or in one of the guesthouses along the valley, DSTV Franschhoek handles the dish work, decoder pairing and Compact activation as one job, not three separate headaches.
As DStv installers in Franschhoek, we install and activate DStv Compact across Franschhoek and the wider Winelands, usually the same day you call. If you’d rather speak to someone than read another spec sheet, WhatsApp or call Walter on 079 754 5527 and we’ll sort the dish, decoder and package in one visit.
Same-day DSTV installation, signal repair and Explora setup across Franschhoek and the Cape Winelands.

Is DStv Access worth it in 2026? Access gets underrated. People hear “entry-level” and picture a handful of grainy local channels, but that’s not really what you’re getting for R99 a month on the streaming version, or around R150 a month if you want it on an actual satellite decoder rather than an app. It’s […]

DStv signal strength and signal quality are related readings, but they do not describe the same thing. A decoder can show reasonable strength while picture breakup continues because the quality is poor. Understanding that difference helps you avoid replacing a decoder when the real problem is dish alignment, an LNB, cable loss or an outdoor […]

A DStv Explora needs more than a power lead and HDMI cable. The decoder depends on a stable satellite feed, a compatible LNB, correct cabling and accurate dish alignment. If any part of that chain is marginal, the symptoms may look like a decoder fault even when the decoder is working correctly. The recommended satellite […]
